Summary:

Following a successful economic needs assessment in Lutissi, Kyasa, Nakedde, and Kitayita parishes of Namayumba Sub County, Wakiso district, beneficiaries expressed interest in income-generating activities like bar soap making, book making, tailoring, and bakery. Based on these preferences, specific training groups were formed.

Objectives:
  • Mobilize and train 25 child mothers and young women at risk in Nakedde parish by August 17, 2023.
  • Orient and induct tailoring and bakery groups on the benefits of registering and saving with SACCOs.
  • Formulate and register 2 saving groups with the Savings and Credit Co-operatives Organization by August 17, 2023.
  • Instill financial discipline and saving habits among 25 child mothers and young women at risk in Nakedde parish.
  • Provide knowledge about potential local markets for the tailoring and bakery groups.
Achievements/Results:
  • 32 out of 25 targeted beneficiaries attended, with 91% being direct beneficiaries.
  • All participants embraced saving with SACCOs, shifting from informal methods.
  • 100% committed to saving before spending, demonstrating a positive shift in financial behavior.
  • Two successful saving groups were formed: Nakedde Agali Awamu (tailoring) and Nakedde Kwagala (bakery).
  • These groups were registered with NESACCO and sensitized about potential markets.

Conclusion

Through this financial literacy training, we aimed to empower child mothers and young women at risk with the knowledge and skills needed for economic independence and self-reliance. This initiative was a vital step towards breaking the cycle of poverty and creating a brighter future for these resilient individuals.
